Our mission
To make specialist knowledge accessible, credible and useful to everyday readers.
AskExperts Journal was founded in 2020 in Bristol, UK, by a small team of journalists who were frustrated with the state of expert commentary on the web. Too much of what we read online was either clickbait summaries, thinly veiled marketing, or dense technical material that required a degree to understand. We wanted something in between: carefully reported pieces that took the time to interview real professionals and translate their expertise into plain English.
Today we publish two or three new pieces a week, covering five core areas: health and medicine, finance and pensions, legal and rights, technology, and trades and services. Every article is built around interviews with verified specialists — consultants, lawyers, financial planners, engineers, tradespeople — and every claim is fact-checked before publication.
What we are not
We are not a directory. We do not sell leads. We do not accept sponsored content disguised as editorial. When an article mentions a specific professional or business, it is either because they were interviewed for the piece or because their published work is directly relevant. We disclose any commercial relationship clearly when it exists, and we use rel="nofollow" on any outbound link where a party could conceivably benefit.
Our editorial principles
- Every quoted specialist is verified against their professional registration or licensing body before publication.
- Articles on medical, legal or financial topics include a note reminding readers that content is general information and not individualised advice.
- We correct factual errors promptly and visibly, with a correction notice at the bottom of the article.
- We do not publish anonymous "expert" claims. If a specialist cannot be named, the claim does not go in.
Who runs it
The current editorial lead is Sarah Whitmore, who joined in 2021. The team is supported by contributing writers based across the UK and freelance specialists who fact-check technical pieces.
